Bathroom Lighting Ideas: Creating the Perfect Glow

Bathroom Lighting Ideas: Creating the Perfect Glow

Good bathroom lighting has three layers: ambient (general room light), task (mirror lighting for grooming), and atmosphere (plinth, panel, and cove lighting). Most bathrooms get the first layer right. The second and third are where LED strips earn their place.

Mirror lighting done right

Side-mounted strips at face height, running vertically either side of the mirror, produce even, shadow-free light for grooming — noticeably more flattering than a single overhead source, which casts light down onto the face and creates shadows in exactly the wrong places. Use 3000K warm white.

The plinth effect

A warm strip fitted at plinth level under a wall-hung vanity creates a floating effect — one of the more affordable bathroom upgrades available relative to the difference it makes. It's indirect, straightforward to install, and one of those details that gets noticed even by people who couldn't tell you why the room looks better.

Getting the IP rating right

Bathroom zones exist for a reason. Use IP65 for anything within the bath or shower zone. Our IP Ratings Guide covers the zones in detail — read it before specifying.
