LED Strip IP Ratings Explained

IP ratings tell you how resistant a product is to water. For LED strips, getting the IP rating right is both a safety requirement and a warranty requirement — especially in bathrooms and outdoor installations.

The ratings explained

IP20
No water protection
Standard indoor, dry locations only.
IP44
Splash protected
Bathroom Zone 2 — around sinks and baths.
IP65
Water jet resistant
Bathroom Zone 1 (above bath/shower). Sheltered outdoor.
IP67
Waterproof
Temporary immersion. Outdoor exposed to rain. Bathroom Zone 0.

UK bathroom zones

Zone 0 Inside the bath or shower IP67, 12V maximum
Zone 1 Above bath/shower up to 2.25m IP65 — use OPTIX S IP65
Zone 2 Within 600mm of bath/shower IP44 minimum — IP65 strongly recommended
Outside zones Rest of bathroom IP20 acceptable — IP44 recommended

All bathroom electrical installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
