In a standard SMD strip, individual LED chips are spaced at regular intervals. Each chip is a discrete light source. Even with a diffuser, the dotted pattern is visible at close range — and undermines the quality of the finished installation in any visible application.
What COB Does Differently
In a COB strip, thousands of microscopic chips are packed continuously across the full width of the strip. The result is a single, unbroken light source — smooth, even, and completely free of hotspots regardless of viewing angle or distance from the diffuser surface.
Where It Makes the Biggest Difference
Anywhere the strip is in the direct or near line of sight: kitchen coving, bathroom mirror surrounds, bedroom headboard recesses, slat wall panels, retail display shelving. In these applications, COB is the only professional choice. For hidden runs inside closed profiles where the diffuser face is at a significant distance — SMD remains perfectly adequate. Use the right tool for the job.
The Lumily COB Range
PEAK is the fixed CCT COB strip in warm and cool white — a general-purpose choice for kitchen and residential work. OPTIX S extends this with natural white and an IP65 bathroom option. OPTIX S+ adds CCT adjustability — one strip, tuneable from 2700K to 6000K with a compatible receiver.
